Share the Love: Lady and Pups

It’s time again for Share the Love, where I talk about someone who’s doing awesome things that I admire!

I can’t claim to be really “discovering” this next gal – she’s been blogging for years now and recently won a SAVEUR award for her gorgeous photography – but damn if I didn’t immediately start singing her praises after finding out about her a few months back.

There are a lot of food blogs out there, and I have limited time to browse and ooh and ahh over every nicely photographed salad with a nicely written comment about it. It takes a lot to get me to look past whatever first caught my interest, and Mandy Lee of Lady & Pups hits all the right notes as far as I’m concerned.

First, there’s the obvious: the gorgeous photographs. I’ve become more interested in photography over the years, and I know enough (aka barely anything) to know how much I don’t know, and to be able to admire work like this for it’s technical skill in addition to my standard lizard-brain OOOOO, PURTY response.

How do you make food look so gorgeous on a dark background? How do you decide the way to arrange things to make them look pretty and clean and appetizing and casual all at the same time? What sorcery is involved? I don’t know, man. But I sure like looking at the results.

Then there’s the writing itself. It’s funny. It’s friendly. It’s a little angry (and sometimes sad). I relate to this.

The recipes are all over the place, and I mean that in a most fantastic way. You could make brioche waffles stuffed with peanut brittle, or a mochi donut, or raspberry and shrimp salad.

Yes. All of them. I want to make and eat all of these things.

Bonus awesome thing: The Flops. The section showing off the recipes that didn’t quite make it.  (The photos are still gorgeous, so we just have to take her word for it that they didn’t taste up to snuff.)

Other bonus awesome thing: ADORABLE DOGS.

That’s all I’m gonna say. I’ll turn you over to Mandy now. Enjoy! (And if anyone makes those mochi donuts…please, PLEASE bring me some.)
