The Liddabit Sweets Candy Cookbook was a 2013 IACP Cookbook Award finalist! This is a huge deal, and we can’t thank everybody enough for all the support and encouragement we’ve received over the years — but thank you, thank you, thank you anyway.
The rumors are true – we actually wrote a cookbook! 3 years in the making, we’re thrilled to welcome The Liddabit Sweets Candy Cookbook to bookstore shelves. (Feel free to order a signed copy from any of the links to your right.) We went on tour for it too — you can check out some photos on Facebook — and we’ll be continuing to teach classes and do demonstrations and signings in 2013. Stay tuned for updates!

HOW DID IT HAPPEN?
To be perfectly honest, writing a cookbook hadn’t seemed like something that was actually a possibility for us – until we were approached by Workman Publishing seemingly out of the blue. They wanted to publish a candy cookbook, geared towards home cooks, with super-detailed instructions and a sense of humor, and thought we could be a great fit. Had we ever considered writing a cookbook? Well, yeah…in our wildest Pegasus-owning dreams.
Several years, 34,277 drafts, and many many sleepless nights later, the book is finished and available in Real Life. Hooray!
WHY WRITE A COOKBOOK?
Our goal in writing The Liddabit Sweets Candy Cookbook was to break down the mystique around candymaking, and really illustrate how simple everything is. Once you know a few basic tricks and techniques, the possibilities are endless! Of course, candy tastes better when it’s super-fresh and made with love – just like everything else that comes out of your kitchen. And the best part is, you know exactly what’s going into your candy – perfect for anyone who’s extra-careful about what ends up in their (and their little ones’) bellies.
HOW IS IT DIFFERENT?
The entire first chapter of the book is dedicated to the basics: the tools you really need (and the unnecessary items that are helpful too), the ingredients you’ll be working with and how they behave, and master techniques for working with chocolate, sugar, and more. We really believe that knowledge is power; the book has all the information you need to be your own troubleshooter. Following that, the recipes (75 of ‘em!) are grouped into categories like Chocolatey, Crunchy-Munchy, and Gummi/Gooey/Chewy – so you can quickly find a recipe you’re craving.
Scattered throughout are fun recipe variations, step-by-step illustrated techniques, helpful tips and tricks, and tasty bits of candy trivia. And don’t forget the tons of gorgeous color photographs! It’s soft-cover, so you’ll be less afraid to take it into the kitchen with you; and it’s super-affordable, so everyone can get in on the action.
We wrote it in a way that we hope is accessible, encouraging, and fun. We don’t take ourselves that seriously; neither should you! It’s candy, for Pete’s sake!
WHY SHOULD I MAKE CANDY AT HOME?
Really, the question is why shouldn’t you make candy at home? We know, you’ve heard it’s terrifying and dangerous and impossible to get right. Lies! Don’t believe everything Big Candy tells you!* Remember, Grandma used to have taffy-pulling parties and keep wax-paper-wrapped caramels stashed away for surprise visitors. Folks have lost touch with their inner Willy Wonkas – and we’re here to help you make that connection again. It’s fun, easy, rewarding, and – most important of all – crazy delicious.
