Perfection vs. Sanity

WYV4Qh

The majority of the content we put out into the world is joyful, silly, and literally coated with sugar. However, I’m in charge of operations here at Liddabit, which is the unsexy business of logistics and making sure ish gets done.

Autumnal Horrorshow: the triumphant (?) return of Tasting One for the Team

SECRET

Ah, autumn. Time of crisp, gorgeous weather; juicy, flavorful apples at the greenmarket; greatly increased frequency of Mr. Autumn Man sightings; and, of course, a grotesque cavalcade of “seasonally”-flavored treats available at a drugstore/coffee shop/bodega near you.

Kitchen Jams: Fall Edition

We do work quietly sometimes to enjoy the serenity of the morning, but, a good old fashioned sing-a-long never hurt anyone. Here’s a sampling of the tunes we’ve been listening to this past week!

I spoke to two (TWO) people on the phone last week who pointed out to me that the blog hadn’t been updated since May. SINCE MAY. I was horrified.

Growing Pains

…construction in NYC being what it is, the project has involved many extra meetings, running over to the new space at the last minute to sign for appliance deliveries, and more decisions about walls than you would ever want to imagine.

Tasting one for the team: Root Beer Float cookies

RootBeerCookiepkg

One thing you should know about me is that I have a soft spot in my heart for terrible junk food. I don’t buy that much junk food as a rule (that ish is expensive!), but I always take note when I see or hear about new, weird flavors of candy or chips.

Jen and I took a trip up to the Bronx a couple of weeks ago to visit a couple very important new additions to the family: some cutting and packaging machinery.

Closing Day

“Oh, shit. What if this all goes pear-shaped? What if we have to shut down the business and sell everything we own? What if our eyeballs fall out then and we can’t find our way to the workhouse/orphanage/other terribly Dickensian fate to which we are now resigned?”

A Day at Liddabit

9:07am – get to the kitchen. I’m perpetually 5 to 8 minutes late to everything. I’m working on it. Check in with Jen and the kitchen, then with Joan about what administrative stuff needs to be done for the day.

Happy New Year, everyone! (I know, I know; I’m probably the last person to wish you a Happy New Year. Well, I wish it for you anyway. So there. YOU TAKE IT AND YOU LIKE IT.) It’s been a long, long while since I updated the ol’ blog; but, in our defense, we had a busy-ass 2013!

Jen King on Wedding Cakes and Tally-Hos

jenjonathan1

I have always been fascinated with wedding cakes, which is odd since I’m not really a “bride” sorta gal. But I do really, really love wedding cakes. As it happens, I am getting married in the fall; and, alas, my fiancé Jonathan doesn’t really like cake (which has turned out to be a blessing because I can choose which flavor the wedding cake will be!). But it made me a little sad, not having something he really loved on the dessert table…

lighting lanterns
Hello, kittens!  I missed you all this week.  It’s been a doozy, I tell you what.  Kitchen issues continue, money issues continue, and — well, basically, all small-business-related problems continue.  But hey – I’m not here to complain at you.  I’m here to tell you where the heck we are this weekend.  Because INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW.

Markets 9/22-9/23

Hey y’all!  Bet you thought I’d forgotten about the blog again, right?  Well, we just started doing markets again, and have been working on getting finalized dates for the tour (still in progress), and planning our book party (TO WHICH YOU SHOULD TOTALLY COME), and looking at new kitchen space, and all kinds of other nutso stuff.  Hence, the not blogging for a couple of weeks.  Since there’s so much going on, I’ll do my best to keep it brief and to the point:

The 12 Days of Tour Stops: Day 12

Well, it’s the day you’ve been awaiting/dreading: the day we announce our full (as of right now) tour roster and finish with the discount codes for guessing and whatnot.  A hearty congratulations to Kate Hollis for knowing that Providence, RI is home to the world’s largest termite!  Well, it’s blue and made of steel and fiberglass, but still.  Another awesome thing about the big blue bug? Since 1990, the termite has been known as Nibbles Woodaway.  Best name ever.

Alrighty! Are you ready for the final clue?  Of course you are.  You were BORN ready.
