THE FOUNDERS

Liz Gutman and Jen King befriended each other while attending the French Culinary Institute’s pastry program. Realizing a shared passion for sustainably produced, fresh, superior-quality ingredients and sweets, their talk of starting a business together became a reality in early 2009. After gaining a vendor slot at the famed Brooklyn Flea Market and garnering some early publicity, Liz and Jen are humbled and thrilled to be lucky enough to spend their time sharing their love of sweets with their unbelievably awesome customers.  Liz also spent 2 years writing for the James Beard Award-winning blog Serious Eats; and she and Jen have just finished writing The Liddabit Sweets Candy Cookbook (Workman), slated for release in Fall 2012.

JOAN BAKER

Our wholesale manager, inventory queen, and all-around genius right-hand woman Joan Baker became our first full-time employee in July of 2010.  Joan was a classmate at French Culinary, and has worked in the kitchens of the famed Del Posto and Park Avenue Spring/Summer/Autumn/Winter, as well as the West Village cupcake haven Sweet Revenge.  She brings loads of talent, an unmatched work ethic, and superior organizational skills to the kitchen, and she can be found at most major events we do.  She’s also a dedicated runner, and has gotten the rest of the kitchen healthier by example.  Thanks, Joan!

.

JESSIE EUELL

Jessie came to us from our alma mater FCI, and has yet again done the school proud.  Braving a wicked commute from the Bronx every day, Jessie has raised the bar on reliability – and has one of the best attitudes we’ve ever come across, to boot.  Aside from keeping us up-to-date on the latest in pop culture, what does she do in her spare time?  Trains for zombie-themed 5k races, that’s what.

.

MICHELLE MILLER

Michelle is our brand-newest hire, and another FCI alum to boot.  She proved her mettle in the godless no-man’s-land that is The Holidays (2011 edition), and is now an indispensable part of our production team.  A CT native, her sterling work ethic, wackadoo-friendly sense of humor, and love of karaoke has earned her swift and total acceptance into the Liddabit family.

.

BRENDAN YI-FU TAY

Brendan is another career changer, and came to us in 2010 looking to try something a little different.  He’s one of the best sports we know – you have to be, as the sole guy in a kitchen full of ladies – and works as a builder and a performer with The Puppet Kitchen when he’s not in the candy kitchen with us.  (Yes, as in puppet puppets.  Yes, we agree it is super cool.)

.

VICTOR SCHRAMM

Victor found us through a mutual friend, and has been organizing and inventorying up a storm since late 2011. His handwriting is so neat as to put the rest of us to shame; and a faster, more thorough boxer-of-orders we’ve never seen.

.

ALUMNI

MARISA WU

Marisa made the change to food from the cushy laid-back environment of film production, and we were lucky to have her.  After stints at Williamsburg’s The Meat Hook and Four & Twenty Blackbirds in Gowanus, she found her way to the Liddabit kitchen in 2010.  Now Marisa is forging her own path with her company Salty Road, where she handcrafts unbelievably silky and delicious saltwater taffy in an array of exotic flavors.

.

MOLLY GILBERT

Molly was our first intern in fall 2009, our first employee in early 2010, and is the writer/photographer of the delightful blog Dunk & Crumble.  She interned in the test kitchen at Saveur magazine, and recently moved to San Francisco – we presume just to make us all jealous.  We miss the heck out of her; but, as we’ve learned from our own mentors, eventually you just have to let ‘em go.  We are enormously proud – Go Molly!
